"The Women"

Our scriptures today are from Luke, chapter 8 verses 1-3 and Luke, chapter 23 verses 27-31 from the Common English Bible.

Luke 8: 1-3

1 Soon afterward, Jesus traveled through the cities and villages, preaching and proclaiming the good news of God's kingdom. The Twelve were with him, 2 along with some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses. Among them were Mary Magdalene (from whom seven demons had been thrown out), 3 Joanna (the wife of Herod's servant Chuza), Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

Luke 23: 27-31

27 A huge crowd of people followed Jesus, including women, who were mourning and wailing for him. 28 Jesus turned to the women and said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, don't cry for me. Rather, cry for yourselves and your children. 29 The time will come when they will say, ‘Happy are those who are unable to become pregnant, the wombs that never gave birth, and the breasts that never nursed a child.' 30 Then they will say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,' and to the hills, ‘Cover us.' 31 If they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"

Leader: This is the word of God for a people of God.

All: Thanks be to God.
